Perhaps not a grape variety on the front pages of the rolodex of some imbibers, Petite Sirah is a quintessentially American variety, known for its deep, inky colour and silky texture. Though of no relation to Syrah or Shiraz, it does indeed deliver the full-bodied, fruit-forward profile that is complemented beautiful by some toasty oak characteristics. It just tastes expensive. The best part is that it can be had for a sub-$50 price tag, while punching well above its weight.
The wines from Black Sage Vineyard come, naturally, from the Black Sage Bench on the east side of Oliver, BC.
